Casino Underground

University: Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. Studio Instructor: Bjarke Ingels Program: Casino Underground is an environmentally sustainable environment built into the earth. The design is based on termite mounds found in the desert, where thermal insulation, natural ventilation and evaporative cooling are used to keep the space at a constant temperature. This underground environment houses naturally ventilated hotel rooms, multi-level casino areas as well as tropical oasis at the bottom.
